This is my high boys & girls. Okay, maybe I’m a tad strange? Oh well, this shit excites me.
Hope everyone is having a good start off to the new year! Mine has been busy! I am looking so forward to moving into a HOUSE! I cannot fathom how inspiring the S P A C E will be. The atmosphere yearns creativity!
I have formed a crush on this woman. I think she is Original in her vocals and her LYRICS . . . badass.
Dark – Deep – Fashionable – Stepford Wives eerie – Lost Romance
The perfect ingredients for one helluva an album.
How can you not love her?
This next song “RADIO” has to be my favorite of Lana’s [hence the title to this post] — Funny story, my guy [so cute] thought that’s what she was saying when really she says “Like a fucking dream I’m living in” . . . like his version a tad better – gotta say. <3
Aka I just had a birthday. Good sex. Epic shower sex. Boys, that does it for us ladays – S H O W E R Penetration. Okay, moving on. I am far too massive a perve. Ahem, Holy shit. Antony Hegarty – I love this human being. His vocals are . . . something else. Listen to his latest off of SWANLIGHTS
God, his voice just makes my face wanna turn. I smile and I cry all at once. It’s such a feeling.
“Thank You For Your Love”
Also, enjoy this next song off of SWANLIGHTS that I found to be absolutely mesmerizing . . .
Now, this is a live version of the song but it is amazing and just as wonderful as the studio version plus I love watching Antony during a live show - ENJOY!
Let’s see here, I’ve been mentally and physically recovering from having a grapefruit sized cyst rubbing against my ovaries, I then got in a car accident – totaling my boyfriend’s vehicle (luckily I came out with a minor neck ache), next up I lose my job, stress upon stress and 20 + applications later I am now fighting off the flu . . . Hehehehehe told you I have reasons for not posting! Okay, okay still excuses but c’mon I haven’t many fans at the moment . . . AGAIN, not the mentality to have. Um. SWOOSH —-
I’m going to stop now and get right on track with Isobel Campbell! Damn, I love this eerie voiced woman! She makes me want to skinny dip in a crystal clear pool of water and after wards run naked in tall wet grassy fields at an attempt to catch the moon. Woman’s voice make ya wanna do some wild shit!
Holy God I love these guys . . . saw them live just about 2 months ago and OH MY FUCK was it amazing!!! I have to brag a bit and show you some photos from *quite* the magical evening!

The next couple of photos were taken by my friend Mr. Mitch Proper who was just off to the left also enjoying one heck of a night!
Ahh, I really feel no need to talk up a storm about these guys as my words would bear no justice – their music truly speaks for itself.
“The fabulous freaks are leaving town – They are driven by a strange desire – Unseen by the human eye – The Carnival is over – We sat and watched as the Moon rose again – For the very first time.”
SBTRKT has primarily been a behind the scenes sorta guy working with well known artists such as M.I.A., Basement Jaxx,Mark Ronson,Modeselektor, and Underworld. All great artists to connect yourself with in the music world of course! But with SBTRKT’s self titled album released just within this last week he has sucked in audiences from all over and boy oh boy is it reelin’ in some great reviews just as fast as an album of this caliber should! It’s funky, it’s fun, it’s creative and you can really feel it! All over I’m reading similar reviews from satisfied fans claiming this is the, “Album of the Summer” and I gotta say, I think they’re right. This is the sorta album you have blasting outside surrounded by close friends, killer good food and a sky fulla fireworks getting set to hit the horizon for the fourth!
Into wacky instrumental? Dub Step, Dance? This album is a solid one FOR SURE! Once you listen you’ll listen again and again. This ones got PURE SWAGGA and it’s simply one heap of an Electro album. The attention to detail in it’s production teamed with the melodic and soulful vocals are more than enough to shake the controls of the UK’s underground Electronic movement into the testy eat you alive Mainstream waters. SBTRKT most definitely teleported his way to the front of the game with this one and now comfortably sits just to the side lines able to make THE move when the time is just right. Give it a good listen, go on . . . be sure to thank me later.
SBTRKT explains his sound: “The main thing is the synths, arrangement and syncopation. I tend to play around with chords or pads first, and then start applying some drums to it. Even though I guess I write ‘bass music’ I tend to add bass in last; rhythm and arrangement are most important for me. A lot of people seem to mention ‘2 step’ alongside my name guess it’s just because of the syncopation that genre entailed.”
SBTRKT is one of them real mysterious sorta artists . . . his tribal masked man album covers suggests that ‘who he is’ isn’t really as important as just what the hell he is doing . . . and that is damn powerful. “SBTRKT” for those of you that don’t know (myself included) is simply short for Subtract. Boo yah! Yes, I said BOO YAH. Tahahaa! Annd *ahem* word on the cyber streets is that “His true identity will be revealed on the 1st of July 2011 via his twitter account.” LOL, I say it’s Dennis Hopper . . . seems like the shockingly unexpected kick you in the nuts sorta thing to be . . .
“Pharaohs”
Mike Powell of Pitchfork reviews discussed SBTRKT’s 2010 album “Step In Shadows” saying, “One of the paradoxes here is that there’s nothing that sounds even remotely bad on Step in Shadows. It’s a glossy and well-assembled 18 minutes of contemporary UK dance music. But it doesn’t really command my attention, and it never sticks its neck out– which seems like an all right way to play your remixes but a confusing way to treat your own music.”
I’d like to hear what Mike has to say now about SBTRKT’s self title debut . . . = )
Oh, and Mr Powell? You said this also very well — ” . . . risking a smaller audience because you’re headstrong about your style or risking an audience that isn’t that invested in you because they’re not sure who you are.”
Explosions in the Sky, no matter what or where they are as far as their sound goes they surely have a knack for sucking you straight in. Whatever your response may be I think “Take Care, Take Care, Take Care” is an album that can be perceived in many different ways and appeal to many listeners. That’s the cool thing about instrumental, baby!
I like the way Pitchfork says it, “One could argue that the music here is predictable and even a bit old-hat. We’ve lived with this sound for well over a decade now, and we have classics to compare it to, including Explosions in the Sky’s own work. And that argument holds some water. But the simple fact is that Explosions in the Sky are very good at this particular thing, and it seems as though no matter how many crescendos and diminuendos they play, there remains a certain amount of cathartic power to their music. The emotion in it is ambiguous, and you can read whatever you want into it– the soundtrack to your rainy day might be the soundtrack to someone else’s overwhelming joy, and that too is important to its appeal.” – Nicely, nicely said!
Give this one a good listen when you get around to which should be right about . . . now =)
This one oughta put a ray of magical light on your day:
“You will not be able to stay home, brother./You will not be able to plug in, turn on and cop out./You will not be able to lose yourself on skag and skip,/Skip out for beer during commercials,/Because the revolution will not be televised.” — Gil Scott-Heron
Gil Scott-Heron dies at 62 but the Poet, the Voice – the proud Speaker, the Musician lives on.
Flawed characters and lovely flawed souls recovering — they sure have a story to tell, bottled emotion straight from the heart. 2011 Remixed Album “I’m New Here” was the end of the 16 years under the radar with the same old tunes. Brand new material from Heron finally arrived and well, the wait was darn worth it. Reviews for the album were highly positive ones, “A masterpiece in its own right” by BBC and further reviews for the album inevitably called Scott-Heron the “Godfather of Rap.”
Gil-Scott teamed up with music producer and remix artist, Jamie English known by his stage name as Jamie XX from his London-based band The XX. – Definitely one of my personal favorite bands! Check out their lyrics to all their songs on their self-titled album here.
X = Casual Love XXX = Extreme Love XX = Perfect Love!
The XX - “Crystalised”
The XX - “Intro”
I don’t know about you but I could probably listen to this first track “Intro” on The XX self’-titled over and over and over, over, over.
“Because I always feel like running Not away, because there is no such place Because if there was, I would have found it by now Because it’s easier to run, Easier than staying and finding out you’re the only one who didn’t run Because running will be the way your life and mine will be described, As in “the long run” Or as in having “given someone a run for his money” Or as in “running out of time” Because running makes me look like everyone else, though I hope there will ever be cause for that Because I will be running in the other direction, not running for cover Because if I knew where cover was, I would stay there and never have to run for it Not running for my life, because I have to be running for something of more value to be running and not in fear Because the thing I fear cannot be escaped, eluded, avoided, hidden from, protected from, gotten away from, Not without showing the fear as I see it now Because closer, clearer, no sir, nearer Because of you and because of that nice That you quietly, quickly be causing And because you’re going to see me run soon and because you’re going to know why I’m running then You’ll know then Because I’m not going to tell you now”
— Gil Scott-Heron (Now and Then: The Poems of Gil Scott-Heron)
